Lakota Culture and Tribal Land Grant Experience on Pine Ridge Reservation

The Oglala Lakota College has developed 4 major themes for this activity:  The registration process provides the opportunity for your theme selections.

Economic Development/Small Business:
This theme will provide opportunities for participants to learn about business initiatives on Pine Ridge, to view some of the historical and current business ventures, OLC programs and activities, learn about and to meet with individuals involved in enterprise development, investment, and community empowerment.

Traditional Arts and History:
Those who join these groups will visit cultural sites, galleries and businesses.  They'll have the opportunity to meet artists, hear story tellers, and learn about OLC initiatives in the promotion and preservation of traditional Lakota arts.

Education/Oglala Lakota College:
This theme contains an overview of the youth education system and higher education systems on Pine Ridge reservation; both historical and current.  Participants will have the chance to visit a district college center and secondary school, and meet with department staff regarding programs, research efforts, and potential opportunities for collaboration.

Natural Surroundings:
Those that join this theme will get a chance to explore some of the magnificent scenery on Pine Ridge reservation, and weather permitting; will get a chance to visit the Oglala Lakota College bison herd.
