As South Dakota has continued to grow, to prosper, to evolve, good people have been the driving force of this progress. Eminent Farmers and Homemakers have been these leaders. Their foresight and efforts have molded many of the basic units that continue to serve South Dakota educational institutions, commodities groups, and community organizations so well today. Many were pioneering educational efforts far ahead of their time. |
A rare and special groupThe criteria by which Eminent Farmers and Homemakers are measured are embodied in demonstrating a lifetime of excellence and commitment to those special aspects of life that South Dakotans value most highly… • Success in life’s endeavors, not in a monetary fashion, although being financially solvent is a requirement. This success must include being a positive example to others in the community. • Contribution to real life. Measurements include having given unselfishly of talent, time and/or leadership to church, public programs, or educational institutions and of making contributions that result in the betterment of family, community, state, and nation. • Distinction in family life. This includes rearing a respected and successful family, being a loving and helpful mate, and encouraging and providing an education for family members. • High standing in the community. This is achieved by having earned the acceptance and support of the community and having been silently so honored, of having been willing to “go the extra mile,” of having bettered the standard of life in county and state. •Satisfaction of accomplishment in the merit of the work itself, rather than in personal gain. Meeting these criteria defines a rare and special group worthy of the
designations Eminent Farmer, Eminent Homemaker.
