The dairy plant project is a university/ industry collaboration for building a new SDSU dairy plant. The project will strengthen dairy education and research at SDSU.
In 2007, new industry partners joined the Jackrabbit Dairy Council, which now includes the American Dairy Association of South Dakota, Davisco Foods International, Ecolab, Glanbia Foods USA, SA Education Foundation, South Dakota State University, Tetra Pak Cheese and Powder Systems, Valley Queen Cheese, and Wells Dairy. These partners have committed a combined total of more than $3 million.
Earlier in the year, the Building Committee of the Board of Regents selected an architecture/engineering firm to begin developing plans for the dairy plant. The firm, in conjunction with the Jackrabbit Dairy Council and the Dairy Science faculty, is in the process of designing the new dairy plant. The design phase is expected to be completed in the fall.
