$165K committed to McCrory Gardens maintenance facility

McCrory Gardens is experiencing its best fundraising year in history. The 2007 membership drive has brought in $48,754 to date, far exceeding the $40,000 goal. In addition, bequests and garden sponsorship gifts this year total $146,045.11, so the faculty and student workers will be very busy next year installing new gardens and upgrading existing ones.
In addition, thanks to the support of Les Roberts and many SDSU Foundation board members, commitments of $165,600 have been raised for a new maintenance building at McCrory Gardens. The existing storage building is too small to support the growing needs of McCrory Gardens and has deteriorated to the point of nearly falling down.
The proposed new structure, which will greatly expand the space available for storage and maintenance of garden tools and equipment, will include a walk-in cooler for plant materials, a lunch room/meeting area, a central office, and a restroom for employees. Construction of the building should begin this fall, and fundraising efforts will continue into 2008.
