Dairy Products Judging Team Places at Nationals

The SDSU dairy products judging team placed third in All Products at the 2007 National Collegiate Dairy Products Judging Contest (Oct. 2007, Las Vegas). The team consisted of Tori Boomgarden, Pipestone, Minn.; Derek Griesse, Harrisburg; Jonah King, Volga; and Ashish Pandit, Bhadrab, India. Bob Baer, SDSU professor of dairy science, coached the team.
By virtue of first-place efforts, King and Griesse were offered opportunities to be judges at future events. King’s first-place overall finish (he also took firsts in yogurt and in ice cream) earned him an offer to be a judge at the Quality Chek’d Dairy Products Association’s meeting in April 2008 in Dallas, Tex. Griesse’s first in Cheddar cheese earned him an invitation to be a judge at the March 2008 World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, Wisc.
