Gary Lemme, dean of the ABS College, was one of 20 Food Systems Leadership Institute fellows to be honored during a ceremony in New York City at the annual meeting of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. The institute is a two-year program designed for leaders in academia, government, and industry.


Charles R. Berry Jr., an adjunct professor in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences, was re-elected for a three-year term to the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Biological Science. The Institute is a professional organization that represents about 250,000 biologists in more than 200 professional biological organizations and museums across the U.S.


David Clay, professor of agronomy, and Fred Cholick, former dean of the ABS College, were named American Society of Agronomy Fellows at the ASA’s national meeting. The ASA has more than 11,000 members in the fields of crop and soil science and agronomy.


Tim Nichols, assistant director of academic programs for the ABS College, was honored at the 80th National FFA Convention, which was held in Indianapolis, Ind., in Oct. 2007. Nichols was presented with the H.O. Sargent Community Leader Award for his efforts in promoting diversity and agriculture.


Leon Wrage, who spent more than 30 year as a weed specialist at SDSU, received the 2007 South Dakota Ag Horizons Award at the South Dakota Ag Horizons Conference (Nov. 2007, Pierre). The award was presented to Wrage in honor of his career serving agriculture in the state.
